MTL or DTL?

This is the first question, and it decides your device. Mouth-to-lung (MTL) draws like a cigarette: a tighter pull, less vapour, longer battery life. It suits anyone moving over from cigarettes or wanting something pocket-sized. Direct-to-lung (DTL) pulls straight into the chest: dense vapour and stronger flavour, but it burns through e-liquid and battery much faster. Small pod devices and disposables are usually MTL; larger mods with a tank are usually DTL.

Which nicotine strength?

Strength depends on the draw. With nicotine salts in small devices, 20-50mg is common for a former daily smoker and 10-20mg for a lighter one. With freebase in a bigger device, strengths run far lower at 3-6mg, because the draw is deeper and the volume larger. The simple rule: start at the lowest strength and move up if it is not enough — that is easier than coming back down.

Coils and pods — when to change them

The coil heats the e-liquid, and it decides both flavour and vapour. A burnt taste or a sudden drop in flavour means the coil is finished — usually every one to two weeks depending on use. A mesh coil gives cleaner flavour and lasts longer than a standard one. Before ordering a pod or coil, check it matches your exact device; the shapes look alike and the fittings differ.
