IQOS Device Guide

IQOS devices heat tobacco rather than burn it. Nothing is set alight, so there is no ash and no smoke — only the taste of the tobacco itself. Getting the routine right is what keeps that taste consistent and keeps the device in good working order.

Before You Start

• Start with a charged device. Check the battery before you begin rather than halfway through.
• Insert the stick the right way up. Slide the tobacco stick straight in with the filter facing upwards, and do not twist it between your fingers on the way in.
• Wait for the ready signal. Switch the device on and wait until it vibrates or the light settles and holds steady. That signal means the heating cycle has finished and the device is ready.

During the Session

• Draw slowly and evenly. Calm, balanced draws hold the flavour steady from the first to the last. Short, forceful draws pull against the heating cycle and the taste suffers for it.
• Leave the stick alone. Never move, pull or rotate the stick while it is seated in the device. That is the fastest way to damage the internal heating element.
• Clear it out at the end. As soon as the device shuts itself off, take the used stick out and dispose of it instead of leaving it in place.

Match the Stick to the Device

Each generation of device takes its own range of sticks, and the two ranges are not interchangeable.

• ILUMA devices are built around TEREA sticks. A TEREA stick will not fit an IQOS 3 DUO.
• Earlier models take the older stick range, and those sticks will not work in an ILUMA at all. ILUMA heats by induction and has no blade inside, so there is nothing for an older stick to sit against.

Sticking to the range intended for your model is the simplest way to protect the heating system inside it.

IQOS Troubleshooting

Heated tobacco devices need a particular kind of handling, and most faults trace back to the same short list of causes. These are the questions that come up most often, with the quick fix for each.

Red Light, or the Device Will Not Start

• Reset it first. Hold the power button down for 10 seconds until the lights switch off and come back on. A reset clears most software faults on its own.
• Check the power side. Confirm the device has actually taken a charge, and charge it with the original charger only.

The Taste Is Off, or the Draw Feels Hard

• Clean the blade area. On the older blade-heated models, tobacco residue collects around the blade with use. Once it builds up, the taste turns dull and the draw gets heavier. A regular clean is the fix.
• Do not reach inside an ILUMA. ILUMA devices have no blade to scrape, so they do not need the manual cleaning the older models depend on. Never put a sharp tool into the chamber — there is nothing in there to clean, and the tool will do damage.

The Device Runs Hot

• Space your sessions out. Leave a short gap between one session and the next so the device has time to cool down.
• Do not run sessions back to back. Continuous use with no break is the usual reason a device starts to feel hotter in the hand than it should.

If the Fault Comes Back

When the red light returns after a full reset, the device needs looking at rather than another reset. Get in touch with our team, tell us what the lights are doing and which model you have, and we will take it from there.
